Manakin Market Scout Day

Faced with the option of actually making some money for our troop, we voted to attend the Scout Day at Manakin Market instead of the fall camping trip at Pamunkey Ridge. Carla made brownies, Mallorie and Macaela made cake pops, and I made pumpkin bread, and bright and early on Saturday morning we piled everything in the car and headed off to market. The weather was absolutely beautiful - sunny and crisp, just as a fall day should be.

We were one of only two troops in attendance. Good for us, due to less competition, but a shame for other troops who passed up this free opportunity to earn some money or get a message out to the public. It was a small market day, not many vendors and not many shoppers either, but we did manage to sell most of our baked goods. Mallorie and Katie made balloon sculptures for donations, and in the end we walked away with $50 that we didn't have before.

So would I do it again? Yes, absolutely! But, with a little more planning, and something else to offer. I was surprised at how difficult it was to sell brownies and other baked goodies. Maybe next year they will do this during a busier time of year.
